Minister of Culture between 2012 and 2020, without diplomatic experience, he had put cultural circles at the service of patriotism, chasing authors and directors deemed too liberal. Mr. Medinski is at the heart of the Kremlin message taken up by its various relays, media and cultural: Russia defends conservative Christian values and must be ” protect “ Against the errors of Western contemporary culture.
Mr. Putin, chief historian of the country, notably entrusted in 2023 to Mr. Medinski the mission to rewrite the history of history for the main classes (equivalent of the 1D and terminal): its two thick volumes cover the XXe century to the present day, with long chapters over the two decades of Putin presidency. Cultural advisor to the Kremlin, Mr. Medinski is thus one of the authors of the revisionist narrative who led to the justification of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022: as the USSR fought the German Nazis, Russia today fights against Ukrainian fascists.
