“Good afternoon!” Why did Vladimir Putin greet the 1st in Spanish?er August, in images that went around the world, two Russian children just getting off the plane? This is because, according to the Russian authorities, they do not speak a word of Russian, and had only known their real nationality for three hours. They had been living in Slovenia until now and thought they were Argentinian. Their parents, Artiom Doultsev and Anna Doultseva, were what are called “illegal spies”. They had been living under complete cover for at least twelve years under a false identity, that of Ludwig Gisch and Maria Rosa Mayer Munos.
In this video, we trace the journey of this spy couple, starting with the acquisition of their false identity, then the beginning of their fake life in Argentina before their departure for Slovenia, where they will eventually be unmasked. We also explain the strategy that put them in this position.
If you want to discover another story of illegal Russian spies, we refer you to this investigation, published at the time of the release of season 4 of the series. The Americans.
