Former French minister and outgoing member of the European Commission, Thierry Breton, has announced that he is resigning immediately from his post, amid disagreements with its president Ursula von der Leyen. In a statement published on social media on Monday, September 16, he claims that Ursula von der Leyen has asked France to propose another candidate to join her Commission.
“I am resigning from my position as European Commissioner, with immediate effect”Thierry Breton declares in this letter. Official candidate proposed by Emmanuel Macron, he explains that the president, who is in the process of forming the new team of the European executive for a five-year term, has “asked France to withdraw (s) his name”.
