When she tells her thirty-three years of existence, Ania is herself moved by the hazards that led her where she is today. The young woman was born in 1991 in Poland, under the name of Ania Zubko, handicapped by a missing leg at birth and placed in a children's hospital. At the age of 2, she was adopted by a Belgian family, under Anne's first name (she prefers to keep her last name to protect her adoption family), and grew in Liège. When Russia attacks Ukraine in 2022, it went to the Polish border, like thousands of volunteers from all over Europe, to help Ukrainian refugees. Then she passes the border, discovers the scenes of Boutcha crimes and elsewhere, and decides to stay in the country at war.

Today, “Ania Tatou”, the pseudonym that she chose for her Ukrainian life, is a soldier in the 505e Navy battalion, a unit formed at the origin of volunteer veterans having re -engaged in order to fight the Russian army in the Kherson region, now integrated into the 37e Marine brigade. The battalion is currently deployed on the southern front of the vast battlefield of Donbass, in eastern Ukraine. Ania has just arrived in the village of V., where she lives with her comrades in an abandoned house, without water or electricity.
