Simplify, start, clarifying the rules … Tuesday, June 17, the European Commission unveiled a legislative proposal in order to simplify the rules applied to the defense industry. Handled since spring in an effort to simplify for all sectors of the economy, the community executive had to offer specific defense measures, in order to accelerate investments in this sector which has become a priority with the war in Ukraine and the threats of American disengagement from European collective defense.

On March 4, a few weeks after Donald Trump's return to the White House, Ursula von der Leyen, the chairman of the commission, announced a vast rearmament plan by 2030. At the end of May, the twenty-seven had already endorsed a new financing instrument, the SAFE fund, endowed with 150 billion euros and proposed by the Commission, to facilitate purchases of weapons and equipment. Likewise, Brussels has already authorized about fifteen member states, including Belgium or Poland, to deduct their defense expenses from their budget deficit.
