The European Commission proposed on Wednesday, May 21, to lighten certain regulatory obligations for 38,000 companies of intermediate size, with between 250 and 750 employees, pursuing a probusiness turn aimed at restoring the competitiveness of Europe against international competitors. These groups will benefit from certain advantages and exemptions, so far reserved for smaller companies (less than 250 employees), in different fields such as the protection of personal data or financial reporting.
This measure must contribute to reviving investment and growth in Europe, an emergency reinforced by the aggressive commercial policy of Donald Trump. The European executive has committed to reducing companies by 25 % by 25 % by 2029.
The proposal presented Wednesday reduces in particular the obligation for companies to establish a register of use of personal data. Organizations with less than 750 employees will only have to keep these registers if these data have a “High risk”. The Commission also proposes to delete the obligation of the paper format for documents accompanying the products sold in Europe such as the instructions for use.
This package of “Simplification measures” Reduct the costs of the companies concerned by 400 million euros per year, says the Commission. It must still be negotiated with the European Parliament and the member states. Administrative simplification is one of the recommendations made last year by the former Italian heads of government Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi in two highly publicized reports.
