Pope Leon XIV urged the faithful, Sunday June 8 during his Pentecost homelia, at “Open borders”encouraging them to overcome fear from those who are different and to reject a “Excluding state of mind” which, according to him, has led to nationalism.

The pope's homily occurs a month after accession to the pontifical throne of the American cardinal Robert Prevost. She followed a Sunday mass to celebrate Pentecost under a sunny sky on Saint-Pierre square. Before mass, the 69 -year -old sovereign pontiff traveled the vast Baroque place in his papamobile under the cheers of the crowd.

The homily of Léon XIV has not specifically mentioned of events or conflicts, nor designated leaders, contenting itself with encouraging the faithful to open up to others, while the fight against immigration is a major subject in many countries of the world. The Holy Spirit, he said, “Also open borders in our relationships”while the Church must “Open the boundaries between peoples and bring down the barriers between classes and races”and that the faithful must “Educate passions that are agitated in us” in order to contain them.

The Pope also said that God was an antidote to toxic relations marked by “The desire to manipulate others” And referred to violence against women, while in Italy a series of female made the headlines last month, including the murder of a 14 -year -old girl by her boyfriend last week.

“With great pain”Léon XIV cited “These cases where relations are marked by an unhealthy desire for domination, an attitude which often leads to violence, as many recent cases of feminicides show tragically.”.

As he did in previous speeches – as well as his predecessor – the Sovereign Pontiff denounced the dangers of social networks. “We paradoxically risk being more alone, always connected but unable to” create networks “, always immersed in the crowd but remaining disoriented and lonely travelers”he warned.
