The automaker Renault in discussion with the Ministry of Defense in Ukraine
French automaker Renault assured, Sunday, having been contacted by the Ministry of Defense to set up in Ukraine in order to produce drones intended for the Ukrainian and French army, but have not yet taken “No decision”.
“We were contacted by the Ministry of the Armed Forces. Exchanges have taken place, no decision is made at this stage because we are expecting details on this project from the ministry ”communicated Renault to the France-Presse agency.
According to information published earlier by Franceinfo, which does not detail its sources, Renault and a French defense SMEs plan to open production lines located “A few tens or hundreds of kilometers from the front” in Ukraine.
Friday, the Minister of Defense, Sébastien Lecornu, announced “A completely new partnership where a large company producing French cars (…) will ally with a French defense SME to arm production lines in Ukraine to be able to produce drones ”. Contacted, Renault did not respond to the requests of the France-Presse agency.
These drones, whose model has not been specified, would serve above all in the Ukrainian army, “But we will also benefit our own French armies to have a tactical, operative training that sticks to reality” From the conflict in Ukraine, Sébastien Lecornu said on Friday.
Ukraine intends to use more than 4.5 million drones in 2025, which are 70 % responsible for destruction of enemy equipment on the front. The French army, which has a few thousand drones, seeks to catch up in the field.
