Gathered in Odessa, leaders of southeast Europe condemn the Russian invasion
Several leaders from Southeast Europe, including the new Romanian president, condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Wednesday after a regional summit in Odessa, a large Ukrainian port of the Black Sea targeted many times by Moscow.
“We condemn with the greatest firmness the war of brutal aggression waged by Russia against Ukraine”is it written in the joint declaration published by the Ukrainian presidency, which was not signed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, his name not, however.
The declaration was signed by the new head of the Romanian state Nicusor Dan, elected in May, as well as by President Moldavian Maia Sandu, the Bulgarian, Croatian and Greek primary and representatives of other Balkan countries.
Aleksandar Vucic, whose country maintains good relations with Moscow, was present at the summit of Odessa for its first visit to Ukraine since the start of the war in February 2022.
The signatories reiterated their “Commitment to provide global and lasting support to Ukraine and its people as long as necessary” and called “All nations to refrain from offering any form of material aid or other to the war effort of Russia”.
Signatory countries support “Ukraine on the irreversible path of its complete Euro-Atlantic integration, including its membership in NATO” And call to strengthen sanctions against Moscow.
