On the sidelines of the G20, Volodymyr Zelensky invited for a state visit to South Africa
South African president Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he was going to welcome ” shortly “ His Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, for a state visit, and pleaded for a process “Inclusive that involves all parties”.
The date remains to be determined but the two heads of state are “Accessive of the urgent need for an inclusive peace process which involves all parties looking for a solution to the conflict”added Mr. Ramaphosa in a brief message published on X. “South Africa remains determined to support the process of dialogue between Russia and Ukraine”assures the South African President, to the proximity hitherto claimed with Russia, a few days after American-Russian talks in Ryad on the fate of Ukraine which took place in the absence of the latter.
South Africa currently chairs the G20 and is hosting, as such, until Friday, a meeting of foreign ministers in member countries in Johannesburg, in a period of strong tensions with the United States, which have decided not to participate.
The exchange between MM. Zelensky and Ramaphosa seems to date on Thursday. The Ukrainian president had it “Thanks”, on social networks, for “The support of South Africa to the sovereignty and the entire territoriality of Ukraine”. “It is important that our countries share the same position: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine”he added.
The South African president announced on Thursday that he had bilateral discussions, notably with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian, Sergei Lavrov. Last October, Mr. Ramaphosa qualified Russia as“Cher ally” and of“Precious friend”.
