Lithuania tries a warning against Belarus, before the International Court of Justice (CIJ) in The Hague (Netherlands). Vilnius accuses Minsk of raping one of the protocols of the convention against the crime organized on the component of illegal migrant traffic. In their request, filed on Monday May 19, the lawyers of Lithuania claim that, “By facilitating, supporting and allowing the illegal traffic of migrants”Belarus violates this protocol.
According to this text, ratified by Minsk in December 2000, Belarus should also take action “To prevent and detect illegal trafficking in migrants »» and cooperate with Lithuania to prevent “Potential migrants do not become victims of organized criminal groups”.
In addition to its initiative before the International Court, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced, in a press release, “The organization of a large -scale migrant traffic towards Lithuania”and recalled that since 2021 the small Baltic State of 2.9 million inhabitants faces “An unprecedented increase in the flow of irregular migrants from Belarus”with which he shares 680 kilometers of borders.
