Three mayors of the main opposition party in Turkey, the Republican People's Party (CHP), was arrested on Saturday July 5, denounced the mayor of Ankara, Mansur Yavas, saying that these arrests took place within the framework of an investigation for accusations of organized crime.

“Our mayor of Adana, Zeydan Karalar, our mayor of Antalya, Muhittin Böcek, and the mayor of Adiyaman, Abdurrahman Tutdere, were arrested”wrote on X the mayor of the Turkish capital.

“In a system where the law bends and oscillates according to politics, where justice is applied for one group and ignored for another, nobody should expect that we trust the rule of law or that we believe in justice”he denounced.

These arrests are the latest in an increasing number of surveys aimed at CHP elected officials; The government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan exerted increased pressure on the party which won a broad victory against power training, the Party of Justice and Development (AKP), during the local elections of 2024.

“We will not tilt ourselves before injustice, anarchy or political operations”assured Mr. Yavas.
