Several people died and others were injured on Wednesday, October 23, in front of the headquarters of Turkey's defense industries in Ankara, according to an announcement by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. “A terrorist attack was carried out against TUSAS facilities in Ankara. Unfortunately, we had martyrs and wounded in this attack” declared the minister on. The term “martyr” is generally used to announce the death of soldiers.
An explosion, followed by gunfire, local media reported. According to the first images broadcast by the private television channel NTV, the explosion which occurred around 4 p.m. (local time, 3 p.m. French time) released a lot of white smoke in front of the entrance to the site, located about forty kilometers from the capital.
A major defense and aerospace industry exhibition is being held this week in Istanbul, which notably saw the visit of the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Turkish defense sector, including the famous Bayraktar drones, represented nearly 80% of the country's export revenues and $10.2 billion for the year 2023.
