She denounces a “blatant hypocrisy”. British MP for Kent Rosie Duffield slammed the door of the Labor Party on Friday September 28 to protest against the gifts received by the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and other members of the government.
In his letter of resignation, reported by the Sunday Times, Mme Duffield also criticizes the head of government for political choices “cruel and useless”. “Sordidness, nepotism and what looks like greed are limitless”she adds after the revelations about gifts accepted by Mr. Starmer for more than 100,000 pounds sterling (nearly 120,000 euros) at a time when his government chose to restrict the energy check for millions of retirees.
Capping of family allowances denounced
She also criticizes him for his decision to maintain the ceiling on a family allowance for two children. “When we have much more than the average and we choose to maintain the two-child limit set by the Conservatives for the payment of benefits, which locks children into poverty, while inexplicably accepting expensive personal gifts, designer suits and glasses, costing more than most of these people can imagine, we absolutely do not deserve the title of Labor Prime Minister”she asserts.
She announces that she will now sit with the independents “guided by its true Labor values”.
