The director of the Spanish daily El Pais is the last victim of the shareholder battle which takes place on the board of directors of the Prisa media group (also a minority shareholder of the Holder owner of the Le Monde group).
On June 4, Pepa Bueno, 61, who had held this position since 2021, was dismissed without explanation, except the opening of a new stage in the reference daily in Spanish. “Pepa leaves El Pais With more than 400,000 subscribers and six editions in America. His mandate was key to consolidating the strategic change of the newspaper ”announced the board of directors, chaired by the French financier Joseph Oughourlian, the first shareholder through his investment fund, Amber Capital, with 29.9 %.
The only woman to lead a large newspaper in Spain, she was replaced by the director of American editions ofEl Pais, Jan Martinez Ahrens, 59 years old. “His experience in America is essential to recover the importance of our newspaper in these times when the global geostrategic context marks the news”, commented Mr. Oughourlian.
