Dhe tax cuts and a reduction in bureaucracy on the one hand, public spending and taxes on the rich on the other. Faced with the crisis hitting the German model, the programs of the two main political forces in the country, the Christian Democrats of the CDU-CSU and the Social Democrats of the SPD, seem to respond in mirror image, opposing solutions that fit perfectly in their respective ideological base. The difficulties of the German economy, at the top of voters' concerns, are however largely under-addressed in the documents published Tuesday December 17 in view of the legislative elections of February 23, 2025.

Weakened by the surge in energy prices following the war in Ukraine, by its model excessively focused on exports in a world shaken by Chinese competition and the prospect of future increases in customs tariffs, by insufficient investment public and by demographic aging which threatens its social pact, Germany is on the verge of completing its second year in recession. Economists agree on the diagnosis, almost all speaking of a paradigm shift for the country, after fifteen years of almost uninterrupted growth.
