When he was elected to the perch of the Austrian Parliament, in October 2024, Walter Rosenkranz had put forward his image of weighted lawyer and former defender of rights to reassure the worried people that a figure of the extreme right has seized for the first time, since 1945, of one of the most prestigious posts of this country of central European European past. “For me, democracy is in first place”he had promised, during his first speech.
In six months of presidency of the National Council [le nom de la Chambre basse du Parlement autrichien]this framework of the Liberty Party of Austria (FPö), 62, aligns so many blunders and provocations that it has become very embarrassing for the rest of the political landscape. Many deputies from other parties had agreed to support his election in the name of the use which the party who came to the lead in the legislative elections recovers this position.
The FPö had certainly obtained a historic score of 29 % of the votes in the legislative elections in September 2024. But its leader, Herbert Kickl, then failed to form a coalition and it is a curator, Christian Stocker, who is now Chancellor after having formed a coalition with the left and the liberals. Although he was the member of a student corporation to the anti -Semitic past, Mr. Rosenkranz was able, on the other hand, to obtain the second post of the State in the protocol order, where he is endowed with considerable means.
