David L. and Sepper L., two young Belgians aged 19 and 18, from Mol, in the province of Antwerp, became world famous on April 5, when Kenyan police from the Directorate of Criminal Affairs and Surveys accompanied by Inspectors of Kenya Wildlife Service discovered in their Naivasha hotel room, northwest of Nairobi, some syringes and test tubes.
The two friends said at the time that they were unaware that the capture of these insects was punished by Kenyan law and that they engaged in a simple ” Hobby ”. A version that Today seems to be questioned following surveys carried out by the Belgian press.
In front of a magistrate called to judge them for “biopiracy” in mid-April, the two Belgians had invoked their “Stupidity” and their “Naivety”. Compared at the same time as a Vietnamese and a Kenyan, they got away with it and were sentenced to a fine of 6,800 euros each, on May 7, before being able to return to Belgium the next day.
