Monday, May 19 will take place in Lancaster House, a neoclassical palace located a stone's throw from Buckingham Palace, in London, the first post-Brexit summit between the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU). British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will welcome the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Kaja Kallas, the head of European diplomacy and the president of the European Council, Antonio Costa, for an appointment to concretize the “reset” (reset) of relations between his country and the continent, that the Labor Leader had promised to the British when Downing Street, in July 2024.

After years of tensions, his government wants an economic rapprochement, to limit the negative effects of Brexit. Keir Starmer also hopes for the signing of a security and defense pact, demonstrating the commitment of the United Kingdom, nuclear power, for the security of the old continent, at a time when the American protective shield is seriously questioned.

Relations have undeniably improved between London, Brussels and the other European capitals in recent months. Mr. Starmer even took the initiative, with French president, Emmanuel Macron, of a “volunteer coalition”, a club in countries which are ready to increase their military aid to Ukraine to secure a hypothetical ceasefire with Russia.
