A funny light arose on “EUQU”, a diminutive of the “European Koran” project (European Qur'an), hitherto subscribed to the usual discretion of university programs. Since April 2019, his international team of around forty researchers worked for this project selected as part of the Excellence Stock Exchange awarded by the European Research Council (CER). The program, which is to be completed in March 2026, is abunded up to 9.8 million euros by the European Union within the framework of “Synergy Grants”which add up to four individual research scholarships (which are capped at 2.5 million).
This is the case here: the project is controlled by four international tops, the medievalist John Tolan (University of Nantes), Mercedes Garcia-Arenal (Superior Council for Scientific Research, Spain), Roberto Tottoli (University of Naples, Italy) and Jan Loop (University of Copenhagen). But this program, which has the purpose of “Discover how the Koran influenced culture and religion in Europe” Between 1143-year of the first Latin translation of the Koran-and 1850, has been targeted for a few weeks by an attack initiated in mid-April in the Sunday newspaper. Behind this campaign accusing this program of hiding an influence relay in the service of the Muslim Brotherhood, what is the scientific reality of this research work?
