China said “strongly dissatisfied” And “firmly opposed” to new US sanctions against Chinese companies over their ties to Moscow, a spokesman for China's commerce ministry said on Sunday, August 25.
Beijing “urges the United States to immediately stop its bad practices and will take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises”said the ministry spokesman.
Washington announced on Friday a new series of sanctions targeting 400 entities and individuals in Russia, Belarus, China and other countries, including some sixty defense technology companies, including “products and services enabling Russia to support its war effort” in Ukraine. “Today's decisions are aimed at targeting those involved in sanctions evasion, particularly in China, as well as those supporting future energy production and exports from Russia.”said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
His ministry is targeting in particular around fifteen Chinese companies accused of continuing to supply components to Russian industry.
On Sunday, China's Commerce Ministry deplored the “unilateral sanctions” Who “disrupt the order and rules of international trade, hinder international economic and trade exchanges, and threaten the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.”
These sanctions result in the freezing of assets held directly or indirectly by the targeted individuals and companies in the United States as well as a ban on any American person or company trading with the targets of these sanctions, at the risk of being sanctioned in turn.
They also close the doors of the United States to all of the targeted individuals.
